Liberal Democrats Call For 2021 Election Guarantee

Redditch and Inkberrow Liberal Democrats have today called for the ruling Conservative Party to guarantee that the proposed changes to the structure of local government will not be used as an excuse to cancel elections in 2021.

Local campaigner for Church Hill, Mark Tomes said "after the Conservative government chose to avoid scrutiny in 2020 by pushing them back to 2021 because they feared a backlash from their poor handling of the Coronavirus pandemic, we cannot allow the proposed changes to the Council structure to be used to deprive Redditch residents their right to cast judgement on our town's Councillors for a second time".

"I have written to Councillor Dormer to request his assurances that the people of Redditch will not have their right to vote stolen for a second year running"

"As Liberal Democrats we believe that decisions should be made at as local a level as possible and so we look forward to scrutinising the plans to ensure that in any new structure, decIsions that affect Redditch are made as locally as possible."
